Pre School
The Pre-School room offers a welcoming large playroom. Children can engage in play-based experiences where they can lead their own learning. Our wide range of resources are labelled to allow children to choose and access them independently. Literacy, numeracy and health and well-being are focus areas in the room, however all areas of the Curriculum for Excellence are embedded throughout the whole nursery. Child sized toilets and sinks are directly accessed via the playroom. The door to access the side garden is always open to allow children to choose indoor or outdoor play. We have a separate room where children can engage in more focused learning experiences and enjoy quiet time.
The Pre-School Room provides:
- Child initiated learning opportunities indoors and outdoors.
- Encouragement for children to make their own choices and access their own resources.
- Opportunities for children to develop their independence – for example pouring their own drinks, preparing and serving their own snack and lunch.
- Encouragement to recognise their name and other familiar names/words through play.
- A variety of mark making opportunities, setting the foundations for writing.
- Ongoing engagement through interesting topics based on children’s interests, supporting them in enhancing their listening skills.
- Daily implementation of the early level outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence.
- A named key person who monitors development and establishes positive relationships with parents/carers to ensure we always work in partnership with each other.
- An online update of children’s daily routine and their learning and development progress through Blossom.
- Opportunities to see the surrounding community through outings to local amenities such as Inverleith Park, Stockbridge, The Botanical Gardens and further afield.
